Lost treasures...

My mom came into the studio last week (this is a normal occurrence as she is my bookkeeper) and she pulls out this old photograph that she had found in some boxes. It was a picture of her from waaaaaay back when (sorry, mom!). On the back she had written "Kaela is a very good photographer!". I got such a kick out of seeing this ancient picture (wait, that means I'm ancient!!), ok, this treasured momento come to light. I must have been maybe 3 or 4 years old when I took this of mom. It set the tone for the future I think! :)

Seeing this made me think though...what have we lost by introducing digital to our world? Snapshots and portraits are saved on a disc or on a hard drive (if they even get downloaded from the camera to begin with!). How in the world can you stumble across a picture tucked away in a box if none of your images are printed out anymore? Sure, some may get printed, but the majority of them don't. CD's scratch, hard drives fail, cameras get stolen. Personally, I'm grateful for my snapshots, albums, scrapbooks and yearbooks. I love searching thru a closet for something and getting sidetracked with reminiscing about high school friends, childhood, pets and mom & dad while flipping thru a random pile of pictures. It's really tough to purposefully sit down in front of a computer with the intention of remembering the past, turn it on and search thru folders for certain images. It loses something I think.

Kaela, you were only three or four years old when you took this photo?! I am glad you found your passion at such a young age. Look how you have touched all of our lives! Suzy Murdoch
